The Greek Music Information Centre is hosted by the Institute for Research on Music and Acoustics (IEMA), a non-profit, non-governmental organisation founded in 1989.
Over the years, IEMA has established a permanent cooperation with the Greek ministries of Culture, Education and Research. It is a member of the Greek National Music Network, and is currently the most active organisation involved in music research, documentation and information in the country.
IEMA-GMIC are currently creating White Book of Specification on Music Digitization, a guide of good practices for digitization of music material.
The Greek Music Information Centre is also carrying out a digitization project of Greek music heritage. Through the project, IEMA-GMIC will realize the digitization of over 300.000 documents (audio, scores and manuscripts) from several kinds of music: contemporary, traditional, byzantine music and urban songs. A big part of the digital archive will be available through the IS technology to the public and the educational community.
