In June, the Swedish MIC will host the IAMIC annual conference in Göteborg. You will be visiting the "capital" of the west coast and the second biggest city in Sweden. The conference is held jointly together with IAML/The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres and IMS/International Musicological Society. The magnitude of the conference provides outstanding opportunities to network with numerous specialists in the field of music, such as librarians, publishers, scholars, composers, musicians, promoters, etc. We expect some 400 visitors. Complete details about the conference can be found at the following URL: www.smbf.nu/iaml-iamic-ims2006. The conference will be held from 18-23 June 2006. The IAMIC annual conference program starts on Monday, 19 June, but please feel free to join the "big" conference already on Sunday, 18 June. The conference centre will be Artisten, the Göteborg University centre for music and drama. The official opening ceremony will be on the evening of 19 June. The City of Göteborg invites all delegates to a reception at Börsen (the Bourse – the old stock exchange house). Apart from eating, drinking and mingling there we are promised some live sounds from old bronze lurs and modern bassoons. Besides the ordinary formal matters and conference sessions, this week will provide numerous alternatives to experience the friendly city of Göteborg and its surroundings. The social programme includes excursion alternatives such as a boat trip to Elfsborg Fortress, visits to world famous rock carvings of the Swedish Bronze Age, music related city tours, organ excursions, etc. Thursday will be totally dedicated to open sessions with topics, such as digital music distribution, recent developments in the field of authors' right, plus an afternoon with discussions and live performances with exciting crossover musicians. A highlight of the week will be Tuesday evening's IAMIC Concert at the Göteborg Concert Hall with Ensemble Gageego! The Concert Hall, built in 1935 with its pioneering architecture, is an experience in itself. The acoustics of the big concert hall are still ranked as one of the best in the world. Everything will come to a very happy end at the farewell dinner on Friday, 23 June-the Midsummer Night's Eve-at Kajskjul 8 in the Göteborg harbour. The Swedish MIC is honoured to host the 2006 conference. We wish you all a hearty welcome to Göteborg and look forward to seeing all there. Välkomna! Gustaf Bergel gustaf.bergel@stim.se
