WOMEX to Copenhagen 2009-11

WOMEX, the most important meeting place for World Music, will be hosted in Copenhagen in October 2009, 2010, and 2011.

WOMEX (which stands for WOrld Music EXpo) comprises three parts: a conference, a trade fair, and a festival with about 50 concerts of world music spanning ethnic folk music traditions, as well as fusion, from all over the world. (In 2007 WOMEX had 2800 participants from 90 countries.) The expo in Copenhagen will be organised by World Music Fair – Copenhagen, which includes the participation of the Roskilde Festival, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and the Danish Center for Culture and Development, among others. The initiative is supported by the Danish Arts Council Committee for Music, the Municipality of Copenhagen, and other public bodies.

Denmark is of course also represented at WOMEX this year in Sevilla from 29 October to 2 November.  Danish participation in WOMEX is supported by the Danish Arts Council and organised by the Music Center of the Danish Arts Agency in cooperation with World Music Denmark and the Danish Folk Council.
