IAMIC at ArtMusFair 2009 – Shaping the Future of Contemporary Music

ArtMusFair is devoted to strengthening the position of European contemporary classical music, its creators and makers, and aims to encourage music stakeholders to integrate more contemporary music repertoire into the framework of classical music programme in Europe.

With this common goal participants have gathered around all over world to discuss issues, exchange ideas and to network. During the conference there were some amazing compositions performed by leading performers, ensembles and orchestra. A common message in the conference this year was “innovation” – new ways to communicate, new ways to present, and new ways to promote music. Several Music Information Centres have participated in this year’s ArtMusFair, including Stef Coninx from the Flemish Music Centre, who was on the Panel this year in the session “New Music – A Concordant Approach”.

With one and half days of exhibition ArtMusFair was also the place to showcase music, scores, recordings, promotional materials, services and a whole range of other information provided by composers, performers, music promoters, agents, managers, publishers and funding agencies from all around the European music landscape.

For the exhibition IAMIC has gathered promotional materials from all the Music Information Centres for the IAMIC stands. At the exhibition many brochures and promotional CDs have been distributed to the delegates to promote services from the Music Information Centres and ultimately, to promote the music and the composers represented.

This is the 2nd edition of the new music convention, and music makers continue to build newer and closer partnerships, exchange new music ideas, and sharing the latest best-practice examples of innovation in the contemporary music world.

ArtMusFair 2010 will be held in Warsaw, hosted by the Polish Music Information Centre, with European Composers’ Forum, Polish Composers Union and Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
