Sound Chronicle of the Warsaw Autumn 2008

The Polish Music Information Centre has released a series of 7 promotional CDs containing music performed at the 51st ‘Warsaw Autumn’ International Festival of Contemporary Music (September 19th - 27th, 2008). As in the previous years, the CDs are exclusively of informational, promotional and educational character and will not be sold. They will be presented free of charge to interested people and institutions from Poland and abroad.

 

Although traditionally the Chronicle aims to promote, first and foremost, Polish contemporary music, the CDs contain, apart from music by 29 Polish composers, also compositions by 12 composers from abroad; 22 of the presented recordings are the world’s first performances, 8 others are Polish premieres, 10 compositions have been commissioned by the ‘Warsaw Autumn’ Festival. The youngest composer in the Festival programme is Andrzej Kwiecinski (b. 1984).

 

Also similarly to the previous issues, the last CD within the series (CD No. 7) has been dedicated to very young composers. It features a selection of compositions performed during two concerts organised by the Youth Circle of the Polish Composers’ Union as fringe events of the Festival (both compositions performed at those concerts and those to be released on the CD were selected by the board of the Youth Circle).

It should be stressed, however, that since the number of copies is limited (500 copies of each CD) and we have noted increasing interest of the public, a preference will be given to music institutions; the CDs should go primarily to libraries, schools, information centres and music publishers around the world.
