Magnifico Performs at the Largest Music Fair in Europe - MIDEM 2009

The 43rd MIDEM music trade fair kicked off on January 18 in the French city of Cannes. The fair is one of the largest in the world and annually hosts around 10,000 people. Last year, Slovenia exhibited at the fair as one of the main guests, offering an ambitious array of performances featuring Slovenian musical talent — an undertaking which was organised by SIGIC. Unfortunately, due to politics at the Slovenian Ministry of Culture last year, the pop and rock portion of the planned performance line-up was trimmed, thus only this year did we get to dot the ‘i’ with the appearance of the ever more internationally popular artist Magnifico, who performed at the trade fair in the Magic Mirrors hall on January 19.

Magnifico’s appearance was part of the MidemTalen Pop programme, which also presented acts from many different countries, such as Blue October, Charlie Winston, Hjaltalin, Hogni, John Shannon, Mamas Gun, Matthew Andrae, Monica Giraldo, Ndidi Onukwulu, Rotary Downs, Scott McKeon, Sliimy, The Ghost, The Parlotones and Yodelice. Coming on the heels of his success at the Womax world music fair in Spain, Magnifico had a great opportunity to get noticed by MIDEM delegates, many of whom preside at the top of the international music industry. With his appearances at reputable music trade fairs, Magnifico has proven that Slovenia can offer music that interests an international audience also in the pop and rock genres, and that appearances at these types of trade fairs to promote musicians (as well as music productions from Slovenia) undoubtedly carry great importance.
