Welsh Brass Band triumph

The Cory Band, more than half of whose players are former members of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, has won the British Open championship under their Music Director, Dr Robert Childs.  The Band, a member of Ty Cerdd – Music Centre Wales, currently holds the Brass in Concert, Welsh, European and World championships. Based in the Rhondda Valley, the Cory Band celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.

Dr Childs conducts the National Youth Brass Band of Wales at a concert in Swansea on Sunday 4th October as part of the Swansea International Music Festival.  His brother, Dr Nicholas Childs (who is also Welsh), conducts the Yorkshire-based Black Dyke Band, which was runner up in the competition.
