MATRIX joins IAMIC

MATRIX is an information centre for contemporary music set up in 2000 by the Music Department of the University of Leuven, Belgium's oldest and largest university. The MATRIX archive contains more than 17.000 scores, 5.000 recordings and 500 books with and about contemporary classical music. An important part of the collection is devoted to Flemish music.

As well as being an important resource centre, MATRIX organises introductory lessons, lectures and seminars in new music. It also offers composers the opportunity to catch up on the most recent developments in the areas of computer music and music software in it’s computer lab - where composition programs can be used and developed.

Since the Spring of 2003, MATRIX has organised a wide range of educational activities. The aim is to introduce classical music since 1950 to a wider audience. MATRIX’s community development programs include:

1. Audience involvement at concerts of contemporary music
2. Courses and workshops on contemporary music
3. Integration of contemporary music into Flemish part-time music education and the amateur arts
4. The organisation of educational concerts
5. Social-educational projects
