"Golden Repertoire" for Two Pianos on a New CD

With a new CD by the piano duo of Ruta and Zbignevas Ibelhauptas, the Lithuanian Music Information and Publishing Centre has launched a new series of releases titled Contemporary Composition, which will present the most talented Lithuanian performers as well as vital Lithuanian repertoire, this time - the most interesting and often performed compositions by Lithuanian composers for two pianos. The new series is the third in the catalogue of the Lithuanian Music Information and Publishing Centre, along with "Contemporary Composer" (portrait CDs by Lithuanian composers) and "Lithuanian Classics".

Winners of the Lithuanian National Prize, the pianists Ruta and Zbignevas Ibelhauptas are extraordinary Lithuanian performers: top-level professionals, open and inquisitive, they are famous for their well-programmed recitals, distinct, unrestrained and temperamental interpretations of classical and contemporary music. New music to them is a necessity and challenge rather than obligation, when there is no solid ground under your feet, no authorities and performing traditions to refer to, and each interpretation has to be created anew. This aspect of their creative work is particularly fascinating: the piano duo has given a new life to quite a few Lithuanian compositions, once written off as "unsuccessful", each time convincing us that exceptional artistic events are born only when a good work meets a talented and creative performer.

A collection of such artistic events is the new CD dedicated to Lithuanian music - 70 minutes of the most interesting Lithuanian repertoire for two pianos, performed and promoted by the Ibelhauptas Duo for many years. Exhaustive commentaries for the disk were written by musicologist Lina Navickaite. The disk was released with the support from the Lithuanian Support Foundation for Culture and Sport.
