Online Magazine resonate
The Australian Music Centre’s online magazine resonate is, slowly but surely, growing into an impressive repository of writing about Australian new music. Since its inception in 2007, one of the aims of resonate has been to encourage and mentor young writers to write about contemporary classical music and sound art. resonate’s contributors go to concerts and live gigs all around the country, and write reviews, interviews and features, increasing the coverage for new music at a time when column inches and air time devoted to reviewing live music are diminishing rapidly in the mainstream media.
Our writers are all volunteers, and in return of their time and effort, they receive feedback and guidance, and their stories are highlighted in AMC’s monthly member eNews. This guarantees a large, interested readership and makes resonate a good forum for aspiring music writers to hone their skills, and encourages online debate about topics such as festival programming and music journalism. The resonate site also publishes reviews, articles and blog entries by professional writers.
The AMC’s former print publication Sounds Australian also has a new life online as the resonate journal, a collection of in-depth articles, essays and interviews that comes out in a members-only section of the website twice a year.
