Flemish Connections at the ISCM World Music Days / 18th Gaida Festival in Lithuania

Fleming Lieven Bertels (Holland Festival) has been invited to be curator of the ISCM World Music Days / 18th Gaida Festival, from 24 October to 8 November 2008 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The festival has invited composers from all over the world to submit works for this occasion. Two focus composers, Jonathan Harvey (UK) and Peter Eötvös (HU), were part of an international jury selecting works which underline the chosen festival theme “In Between”, looking at contemporary music as transit zone and middle ground. As an associate member the Flemish section of ISCM was allowed to submit six scores. The work for strings Das Utopias by Filip Rathé was selected and will be performed on the 5 November in the National Philharmonic Hall by the Kremerata Baltica, the chamber orchestra created by renowned violinist Gidon Kremer.
