CMC Brings New Irish Music to New York

CMC presented New Music - New Ireland, a concert of contemporary Irish music at the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, New York on 17 October.

The event, which was funded by Culture Ireland, was a major initiative for CMC and marked a new strand of activities around international promotion of Irish composers for the Centre. The event also marked the beginning of a new partnership agreement between CMC and Culture Ireland, which will see a number of high profile events and international promotional initiatives involving Irish composers' work developed over the coming years.
New Music - New Ireland showcased a selection of the best of today's Irish composition played by top-level young New York- and Irish-based performers in this prestigious venue.
The ConTempo String Quartet, Galway's Ensemble-in-Residence, was joined by New York-based clarinetist Carol McGonnell and pianist Isabelle O'Connell, both originally from Dublin, to perform music by Ed Bennett, Ailis Ní Riain, Deirdre McKay, Jane O'Leary, John Kinsella, Ian Wilson and Jennifer Walshe.

CMC was also able to draw on the assistance and support of the American Music Center through Frank J. Oteri in providing information on key contacts in the New York new music community in the run up to the concert.
