The Music Centre Slovakia is a State-subsidised institution established by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
It is a place of documentation, promotion and edition of music culture with countrywide activity, whose mission is to encourage Slovak art of music by organising concerts, giving compositions of Slovak authors, publishing sheet music and books on music, documentation of musical life in Slovakia and promotion of Slovak musical culture at home and abroad.

The Music Centre Slovakia consists of four departments: documentation, publishing, external relations and economy.

Department of Documentation and Information

  • collects and systematically processes and completes musical archives – collects and sorts information and documentation material on living musical culture
  • creates a database of Slovak composers, concert artists, musicologists and musical events in all genres of music
  • provides the public study room

Publishing department

  • publishes the Complete Works of Ján Levoslav Bella, scores for music students, books on musicology, history of music and analytical texts
  • publishes the monthly music magazine Hudobný život (Musical Life) which brings information on musical life in Slovakia and abroad, critically reflecting premières at home and abroad, providing profiles of young Slovak music artists, studies and articles in musical history, musical theatre, history of jazz and world music, portraits of personalities in music, reviews of CD’s and books on music.
  • takes part at the international music fairs MIDEM and Popkomm

External Relations Department

  • runs selected international festivals of music, organises concerts of Slovak and foreign artists home and abroad, events in musicology, promotes Slovak art of music in Slovakia and abroad
  • Sunday Matinées in the City Gallery of Bratislava, Mirbach Palace – a presentation of young talented artists, renowned performing artists, promotion of works by Slovak composers
  • Concerts for schools
  • Young Talents’ Forum – educational project for young artists
  • other concerts in Slovakia, and abroad – many of them in cooperation with Slovak institutes in the various countries, or as part of music festivals
  • Melos-Ethos, international festival of contemporary music
  • Central-European Music Festival, Žilina, international festival of young musicians
  • Digital Music Education and Training (DMET)


The Music Centre Slovakia is a member of international non-governmental organisations:

  • IAMIC (The International Association of Music Information Centres)
  • IAML (The International Association of Music Libraries)
  • ECPNM (European Conference of Promoters of New Music)
