Music Centre Slovakia is a State-subsidised institution established by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. It's mission is:

  • to encourage Slovak music culture by organising concerts
  • to bring pieces of Slovak composers to stages
  • to publish sheet music and music books, documenting the music life in Slovakia
  • to promote Slovak music culture abroad

The Music Centre Slovakia consists of four departments: publishing, documentation, finance and communications.

The communications department promotes Slovak music in Slovakia and abroad through international music festivals, concerts and musicological events. Among the events organized in 2005 were Sunday matinees in the City Gallery of Bratislava (36 concerts including 6 premieres of pieces by Slovak composers), 275 concerts for schools, the Young Talents Forum (an educational project for young artists consisting of 17 concerts), the Central European Music Festival in Zilina and the 8th International Music Festival ‘Melos Ethos’ with guest composer Steve Reich.

Thanks to a proposal by the Music Centre Slovakia, the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic announced 2006 to be Year of Slovak Music.
