To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Stevan Stojanovi Mokranjac (1856-1914), the first prominent author of Serbian choral music, the 28th edition of the SOKOJ-MIC publication Novi Zvuk/New Sound will be dedicated to the subject of CHOIR - Individual-Collective/Traditional-Contemporary. In keeping with the 12-year-old practice of this international magazine, the 28th edition will be published in two volumes, the one in Serbian and the other in English. Contributors include musicologists and specialists from Bosnia and Hercegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Hungary, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro. The magazine will be accompanied by a CD, featuring choral works and illustrating the content of the magazine.
Another SOKOJ project is the Legacy of Josip Slavenski. Operating under the auspices of the MIC, this project aims to save the work of this composer, who created a synthesis of the Balkan spirit in his works. MIC preserves the work of this composer by caring for his estate, publishing compact discs, organizing concerts and rostrums devoted to Slavenski and his disciples. A book of memories entitled Josip, written by the composer’s wife Milana Slavenski, was recently published in collaboration with the Belgrade Music School.
