The Estonian Music Information Centre (EMIC) was established in 1995 by 15 music-related institutions. The priority of EMIC is to arouse interest in Estonian classical and contemporary music both in Estonia and abroad. EMIC provides information about Estonian composers and their works, music organisations and their activities, musicians and musical life in general.
It is now a quarter of a century since the 1st Estonian Music Days, organised in connection with the XI Congress of the Composers’ Union of Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1979.
The 2006 Festival, a collaborative project between the Composers’ Union, the Estonian Music Information Centre, NYYD Ensemble, Estonian Academy of Music, Tallinn Philharmonic Society, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Estonian Theatre and Music Museum and State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert saw an impressive 19 concerts over 8 days. Under the artistic direction of Timo Steiner and Ülo Krigul, the 2006 festival reached audiences in 16 venues.
